The top five companies accounted for 49% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most artificial intelligence patents within the consumer industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 150 artificial intelligence-related patents in the quarter, compared with 166 in the previous quarter. It was followed by LG with 114 artificial intelligence patent filings, Vivo Mobile Communication (69 filings), and Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications (53 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 35% share of total patent filings
The largest share of artificial intelligence related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 35%, followed by the US (29%) and Japan (2%). The share represented by China was 5% lower than the 40% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
