The top five companies accounted for 74% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most big data patents within the consumer industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 57 big data-related patents in the quarter, compared with 39 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Vivo Mobile Communication with 13 big data patent filings, LG (11 filings), and Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications (9 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 62% share of total patent filings
The largest share of big data related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 62%, followed by China (6%). The share represented by the US was 28% higher than the 34% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
